Let's talk natural hair product ingredients - Cetyl Alcohol
Let's talk product ingredients
A very popular and favorite brand of a lot of people is receiving a lot of backlash these last couple of days because of allegedly using an ingredient that is supposedly cancer causing. Also some people are experiencing hair breakage from the use of their oil (I will send an email on that next week). There has been no credible proof to show this brand was sued for that particular ingredient (Diethanolamine also known as DEA) these claims aside from Tik Tok videos. This has a lot of people shock!
I am sure now people are in a tizzy and looking for things so I will do my best to be transparent with you guys to help you understand some ingredients that may seem scary but are really not.
Let's talk about Cetyl Alcohol.
If you are reading labels you will see that this particular product is used in my third most popular selling product, Creme de la Curls, and as a second ingredient. This particular ingredient just immediately screams DRY and stay away, right? But no wait...You may not know this but Cetyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol used in most hydrating conditioners. Did you know that cetyl alcohol is 95% natural and occurs naturally in plants like palm trees and corn plants?! Cool, right? It is not the "typical" alcohol that can be drying or ones used for hold. Cetyl Alcohol is actually a moisturizing emulsifier that helps blend together ingredients like oil and water. Its benefits include softening the hair and giving the hair slip that people are looking for. Remember not all alcohols are bad, just like not all fats are bad! Google can be your friend!
I always preach learn the products and ingredients your hair likes, dislike and more importantly asking for (i.e. if your hair is dry do not not reach for a protein based product, use a moisturizing product to get the best result!

Before I go let me say this briefly. We want small health focused brands to grow but we also want them to stay the same. You have to pick what is more important to you - amazon like shipping speed, worldwide availability and cheap or small ingredient lists (meaning *less* fillers and preservatives), slower shipping and not readily available everywhere.
